FATHER AND MOTHER
Inside each person there are two voices: one urges you to grow, the other says you are safe. You need both to stand firmly.

PRINCIPLES
Father is structure, direction, a path.
Mother is acceptance, safety, home.
You need both principles within you, even if you didn't have both outside.
Without an inner Father, there's no discipline to see things through.
Without an inner Mother, there's no warmth to make it worthwhile.
You can grow inside yourself what you didn't receive from outside — but that requires acknowledging the lack, not denying it.
Mother says: "You are safe, no matter what happens."
Father says: "You can manage, even when it's hard."
You need both voices.
The Inner Father and Inner Mother are not about who your parents were.
They are about who you have become able to be for yourself.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
Which voice do you lack inside — the one that urges you to grow, or the one that says "you are safe"?
Have you become the parent to yourself that you didn't have — or are you still waiting for someone outside to fill that role?
What of your real father or real mother lives in you now — their strength, or their fear?
Can you be firm with yourself and warm at the same time — or does one voice drown out the other?
Who are you still trying to prove something to — your real parent, or the version of them that lives in your head?

GROWTH POINTS
Don't confuse the absence of one parent with an inability to cultivate both principles within yourself.
Don't punish yourself with your inner critic and call it "the Father's demandingness."
Don't mistake self-indulgence for the Mother's genuine care.
Ask yourself in a difficult moment: what would the wise Father say to me now, and what would the loving Mother say?
Cultivate both voices consciously, not only the one that was louder in childhood.
Be the parent to yourself that you would like to be for your own child.
